HHA TETRA MAX RYZ X3

This sight was pretty high on my list coming into 2024, after ample time spent with the sight I finally have my opinion on it gathered and am excited to share it.

FRAME:

We will start with the frame for this review, I typically lean towards a dovetail sight for the purpose of this article that is what we will talk about, because well I got the short dovetail version. I did not feel the need to get the longer dovetail because I tend to like to run my sight as close to the riser as I can. This allows me to get the most yardage out of my sight. Regardless you can expect the same solid construction from HHA as always with this frame, it is sleek and well put together, on the MAX version of this sight the gears are protected by a dust cover, which is a nice feature, also the max version has the ability to remove the sight tape wheel and put another tape on for those people that like to shoot multiple arrow set-ups this is a nice little touch.

The frame also has second and third axis adjustments which are pretty standard on all sights these days. However, if I had to put one big gripe on this sight is its in the upper five-hundred-dollar range and doesn't have a 1st axis adjustment. You get what you get with this on the first axis. In my case the first axis was pretty dead on so there were no issues on that front, but I could see this becoming an issue for other archers when every other sight in this price point has the first axis adjustment.

SIGHT TAPE WHEEL:

New for 2024 HHA now offers 3 yardage indicators on their X3 sight. This was a major selling point for me coming from my Spot Hogg Fast Eddie XL which had this feature also. Being able to know what all 3 of your pins are at all times is a great feature.

Also, HHA stuck to their traditional sight tape on the quiver side of the bow which I prefer much more than on the inside of the riser. Mostly for movement while spot and stalk hunting, in my opinion, there is far less movement involved when the tape is on the quiver side, add the ability to swap the tape wheel this sight gives a lot of options.

Also, HHA has always had a smooth dial, this sight is no exception. The X3 also comes standard with HHA Long Range Sight tapes.

PINS:

HHA has some good pins, not the best in the industry that goes to black gold for certain. However, HHA does have quality pins. They also offer an adjustable rheostat for your pins, which allows you to adjust the pin brightness based on the type of environment you are in.

The scope housing on the new X3 is the smallest in their hunting lineup for me, I was not a huge fan of this and thought about swapping to the 4-pin housing for the slightly larger housing. I usually use a 1/4 peep, I like to have a lot of light in my eye at all times, smaller peeps don't allow me to achieve this, so I like the bigger peep, but pairing the smaller housing with the larger peep and even positioning the sight rail closest to the riser, the scope was still not framing in my peep properly. to remedy this i used a silicone ring from Bonus Ring around the rheostat and that has framed out my scope perfectly for me.

OVERVIEW:

Overall I believe this sight is a great option for someone who is looking into a high-end sight. My only gripe with the sight at this price point is the lack of 1st axis adjustment ( even though mine is set perfectly from the factory). This is a real winner from the folks over at HHA. you can expect exceptional durability and ample years of heavy usage out of this offering.
